Special Town Meeting
Holding a special town meeting:
Article #1: To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.
Article #2: To choose a Road Commissioner, Term Expires 2026
Article #3: To see if the Town will vote to approve $10,000.00 to be spent from surplus to pay for the 2025 annual audit.
Article #4: To see if the Town will vote to change the election process of Municipal Officers from open nomination to secret ballot.
Article #5: To see if the Town will vote to change all municipal official positions, excluding select board, to appointed positions vs. elected.
Article #2: Currently Tom Wagner is serving as Road Commissioner and a member of the Select Board. Maine Municipal Association prefers that the position of road commissioner goes to the full board vs. an individual member of the board. We have had the position open since June 29th with no interest in filling the vacancy. If someone is interested, they are still able to be nominated on the floor at this meeting.
Article #3: The audit line was left out of the annual town report budget voted on in March in error. Our 2025 audit has been completed, and we need to pay our auditors.
Article #4: This will change from an ‘open nomination’ at our annual town meeting, where nominations are taken from the floor and then voted on, by writing an individual’s name on a piece of blank paper; to having candidates file nomination papers, with 25 resident signatures. These nomination forms will be used to create a ballot, including a ‘write-in’ line, for registered voters in Waldo to come to the Community Building, during polling hours, held on a date before town meeting. It will also allow absentee voting for 30 days prior to the election.
Article #5: This will change all positions, excluding select board, to be appointed by the board. This has become the standard process among many towns in the state for security purposes. It ensures sensitive positions that handle finances, etc. have proper switch over, allowing for training to help prevent disruption in town business.
